Data on your Mac

The activity Chopstick records stays on your Mac and is not sent to me. If you use a coding agent with it, what you share goes to that agent's provider under its own privacy policy.

What I process

• Free trial: a one-way hash of your Mac's hardware ID, when the trial started, and when you bought a license, to give each Mac one trial and count purchases (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR). Kept while trials are offered.
• Purchases: handled by Polar (Polar Software, Inc., USA) as merchant of record, including payment, invoices and license keys (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Kept by Polar as long as tax law requires.
• Feedback: what you send from the app, with your app and macOS version and Mac model, by email (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR). Kept until it's dealt with.
• Website, updates and server: hosted by Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc., USA), which processes your IP address and request details to deliver them securely (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
• Website analytics: Plausible Analytics, which I run myself on Railway (Railway Corporation, USA), counts visits and what's clicked on this website, without cookies. It doesn't store your IP address or identify you across days (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Transfers outside the EU

Polar, Cloudflare and Railway are based in the USA. Transfers rely on the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.

Your rights

You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction, data portability and objection (Art. 15–18, 20, 21 GDPR). Write to contact@joshuaknauber.com. You can also complain to a data protection authority; mine is the Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information.
